What does SMPTE stand for?

SMPTE stands for Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. It is an international professional association of engineers working in the motion imaging industries. The organization has developed more than 600 internationally recognized standards and guidelines for television production, filmmaking, digital cinema, audio recording, and information technology.

Standards include:

SMPTE 2022-5: Forward Error Correction for High Bit Rate Media Transport Over IP Networks
SMPTE 2022-6: Transport of High Bit Rate Media Signals over IP Networks
SMPTE 2022-7: Seamless Protection Switching of SMPTE ST 2022 IP Datagrams

SMPTE 310M: The SMPTE standard for synchronous serial interface (SSI) for MPEG-2 digital transport streams
